Memcached is a memory caching system, which is used to accelerate the overall performance of database-powered sites by caching the queries and the responses between the website visitor and the server. In simple terms, every time a specific page on such a website is opened, the script queries its database to fetch the info that should be displayed to the website visitor. In case the latter clicks a hyperlink to open some other page, the whole operation is executed again and this results in plenty of database requests and excessive load on the server, particularly if the site has a lot of concurrent visitors. Memcached "memorizes" this exchange of information, so in case any of these web pages is opened again, the script no longer has to request any content from the database, as everything is provided by the Memcached platform. In this way, the overall load speed of your site will "soar" and you’ll have more pleased visitors and they will be able to browse your site faster. Plus, Memcached "refreshes" its cache every time any content in the database is edited, so the site visitors will never end up seeing outdated content.

Memcached in Shared Web Hosting

The Memcached caching system is offered as an optional upgrade with each shared web hosting that we are offering and you will be able to start using it once you activate it, since the extension that it requires so as to function properly is pre-installed on our avant-garde cloud platform. You can request the upgrade through the Hepsia Control Panel, which is available with every shared hosting package and a brand new section where you can manage Memcached will appear. The upgrade is divided into two parts – the instances and the memory, so as to offer you more freedom. The first one refers to the number of the sites which can use the Memcached caching system, whereas the second one, which comes in increments of 16 MB, defines the maximum size of the content that can be cached by the system. A traffic-intensive site with a large-sized database may need more memory to take an even bigger advantage of the Memcached caching system, so if you’d like to upgrade this service, you’ll be able to do it at any point with a few mouse clicks.

Memcached in Semi-dedicated Servers

You can get the Memcached data caching system as an optional upgrade with each of our semi-dedicated servers and since it works with any script-powered web app, you can use it for every website that you host on our semi-dedicated servers, regardless of what application you have used – Mambo, WordPress or Joomla, a custom-created one, etc. You can add the upgrade via the respective section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel from which you manage your semi-dedicated server account, and you can select two different features – the number of instances and the amount of memory that they will use. To put it simply, these things show the number of the Internet sites that will use the Memcached caching system and the amount of system memory that the system will be able to use in order to cache your content. The two things are ordered separately for more flexibility and one instance does not come with a pre-defined amount of system memory. You can use the Memcached system with any sort of site and both you and the visitors will quickly detect the difference in the performance.

Memcached in VPS Servers

Memcached is included by default with each VPS server that we are offering if you select Hepsia as your Control Panel, so you will not need to pay any extra money to be able to take advantage of the power of this data caching system. The more powerful Virtual Private Server package you choose, the more memory Memcached will have for information storage purposes, but you’ll have no less than several hundred megabytes at all times, which is much more than the amount of memory you would get with a shared hosting package. This will allow you to use the Memcached caching system for many sites, no matter how large they are, which in turn goes to say that you can use a less powerful plan for them without overloading the server. The Memcached caching system is perfect for script-based software apps like WordPress, Joomla, OpenCart or Mambo, and you can use it even with a custom-created app. Soon after you activate Memcached, it will begin storing data and you will observe the enhanced overall performance of your sites.

Memcached in Dedicated Servers

If you obtain any of our dedicated servers and if you choose Hepsia as your hosting Control Panel during the signup process, you’ll get the Memcached distributed memory caching platform by default and you can set it up for each site that you host on the server without upgrading or installing anything. It will start storing content as users open your site, so you’ll notice the effect of using it shortly after that. The minimum amount of system memory that will be available to the platform is 3 gigabytes and naturally, the more powerful the dedicate server plan, the more memory Memcached will have at its disposal. This amount will allow you to take advantage of the platform for multiple websites or for a very popular website without compromising its efficiency. The Memcached platform will enable you to speed up any database-powered Internet site in no time – a Joomla portal, a WordPress blog, an OpenCart e-store, etc., and to improve the performance of your dedicated machine.
